The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI) has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electoral Commission (EC) to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve their differences over the voters’ register.
The CFI expressed concern over the potential risks of large-scale demonstrations in a statement available to Metro TV.
“The safety of all Ghanaians must be the top priority, and any actions that could incite violence or unrest must be avoided at all costs.”
The NDC has raised concerns about errors and discrepancies in the Voters’ Register, prompting demands for a forensic audit.
However, the EC maintains that the ongoing finalization of the register must be completed before any audit can take place.
“We appeal to the NDC and all protest organizers to ensure that these demonstrations remain peaceful and lawful,” the CFI said, adding that “the right to protest is protected, while safeguarding public order.”
The CFI also called on the EC to act expeditiously and transparently in finalizing the register.
“The integrity of the voters’ register is not merely a political issue – it is a matter of protecting the democratic rights of every Ghanaian citizen.”
The group proposed an independent audit of the final voters’ register once it is completed.
“We believe that the impasse between the NDC and the EC can be resolved without confrontation…it requires sincere and constructive dialogue between all stakeholders involved.”
