Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, Senior Campaign Aide to the NPP running mate, has underlined that cocoa farmers’ financial circumstances have improved during the Akufo-Addo administration compared to the John Mahama administration.
He asserts that the NPP put policies in place that enhanced the cocoa business, in contrast to the Mahama administration, which effectively decimated it.
“In 2016, 13 bags of cement could be purchased with a bag of cocoa. The farmer in 2024 can make 30 bags of cement from the same bag of cocoa,”
“The NPP government has performed much better than the Mahama-led administration,”
The former NDC government cannot take credit for introducing a single policy or intervention in the cocoa business.
The reason for this is that the majority of the interventions in the cocoa industry were started and carried out by both the current government and the Kufuor administration.
“Farmers are doing much better today than they were yesterday, and tomorrow looks even better,” Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu told Kumasi-based Hello FM.
Nonetheless, the incalculable sacrifices and contribution our cocoa farmers make to the advancement of our nation are continually brought to our attention.
He is therefore calling on cocoa farmers to vote in huge numbers against Mr. Mahama, saying that he will destroy the sector and reverse all of the accomplishments gained under the Akufo-Addo administration.
We would like to caution all well-meaning Ghanaians, cocoa producers, and their dependents: do not let John Mahama touch your cocoa.
President Nana Akufo-Addo announced an increase in the cocoa producer price from GH₵3,000 to GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, representing a slight rise of 0.03% from the previous rate set in September for the 2024/2025 crop season.
The adjustment, which translates to GH₵49,600 per tonne, is intended to align cocoa prices with current market conditions and provide additional support to Ghanaian cocoa farmers.
