Cocoa farmers in Dormaa Ahenkro area have accused the NDC administration of misleading them after the government set the price at Gh¢3,228.75 per bag for the 2025 2026 season, far below the Gh¢6,000-plus figure promised during the campaign.
In an interview on Gifts FM, Nicholas Gyan, vice chairman of the local Cocoa Farmers Association, called the announcement a serious deception.
He urged the president and officials at the Ghana Cocoa Board to revisit the price and set it at a level that will motivate farmers to maintain, and even boost production.
“Many of us planned our budgets around the campaign promise of over Gh¢6,000 per bag. That figure drove our decisions on planting and maintenance. Now we feel the rug has been pulled from under us.” Gyan said
Other growers who joined the radio discussion echoed his frustration. They described the price decision as a scam against hardworking farmers and warned of declining enthusiasm if relief is not offered soon.
One farmer noted that the cost of inputs such as seedlings, fertilizer and labour has risen sharply, making the small increase virtually meaningless.
“If we carry on like this. We risk planting fewer trees next season and seeing our yields drop.” He added
The Cocoa Farmers Association plans to submit a formal petition asking for an immediate review.
They hope the president will step in and raise the price to a level that reflects real production costs and the value of their labour.
