Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received a report from a minority committee led by Frank Annoh-Dompreh following an engagement and tour with cocoa farmers across the country over concerns about cocoa pricing.
The report, according to sources, captures feedback and recommendations from farmers who have raised concerns about prevailing cocoa market conditions and their impact on livelihoods.
The development comes at a time when comparisons are being drawn with 2017, when global cocoa prices declined but the then NPP government maintained producer prices to shield farmers from the downturn.
Dr. Bawumia has subsequently referred the committee’s findings to the party’s Policy Committee on Agriculture and Food Security to examine the issues and develop what is described as credible policy alternatives for consideration.
Party sources say the move forms part of ongoing efforts to respond to concerns within the cocoa sector, with emphasis on ensuring stability for farmers amid global market fluctuations.
