COCOBOD Financial Woes: Government not candid about challenges – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has expressed concerns over the Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) financial struggles, stating that the government’s lack of transparency is exacerbating the issue.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, said, “Consistently what I have seen about the government is the fact that they are not candid, they are not truthful and they don’t take responsibility for their actions.”

Furthermore, the Odododiodio MP highlighted the impact of COCOBOD’s persistent losses.

“Cocobod’s persistent losses over the years have made it an unattractive investment opportunity, deterring potential investors from putting their money into the organization.”

He emphasized the need for clear communication, adding, “If consistently we have been affected by the Cocoa swollen shoot disease, affected by the replanting policy, and our yield are not able to meet the expectations of both our investors and country, it is only fair and proper that we communicate and communicate well to the people for them to understand us.”

Meanwhile, Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, has also criticized COCOBOD’s decision not to borrow from foreign banks, describing it as “contrived and face-saving.”

Ato Forson believes this move is a tactic to hide the fact that COCOBOD is no longer credit-worthy.
