Commissioner General’s strategic leadership transforming GRA – Kwesi Botchway Jnr

A member of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Mr. Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has applauded the GRA Commisoner-General, Madam Julia Essiam for her strategic plans in transforming the Ghana Revenue Authority.

According to Mr. Kwesi Botchway Jnr, Madam Julia Essiam has recorded massive success since her new appointment as the GRA Commisoner-General.

He also emphasized that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is certain it will reach this year’s tax target of GH¢146 billion, given the achievements shown in its mid-year collection performance.

Mr. Kwesi Botchway Jnr says through the hard work of Madam Julia Essiam, the GRA had significant improvement on their mid-year 2024 performance, and said a total of GH₵68.49billion against a half-year budget of GH¢67.9billion has so far been collected.

“A nominal growth of 37.6 percent was achieved over the same period last year, with an extra GH¢138.6 million (0.2 percent) over the cumulative mid-year objective.I would like to extend my congratulations to the Commissioner-General, Top Management, and Employees for their exceptional work in surpassing the mid-year revenue target for 2024,”Mr. Kwesi Botchway Jnr said.

He went on to say that there were other obstacles in the way of accomplishing this historic occasion, such as the seasonal difficulties in meeting income goals during election years.

He also reiterated that the GRA also outperformed and exceeded its monthly target for June by an exceptional 21.2 percent, lauding it as a significant increase in a single month. What is significant, however, is that these were achieved against the headwinds of a very difficult first quarter.

He did, however, reveal that GRA had begun a recovery journey in April, having surpassed the monthly target by 1.9 percent, and then by 1.4 percent in May.

According to Mr. Kwesi Botchway Jr., the turnaround to reach GRA’s positive half-year performance target was aided by the Commissioner-General June’s noteworthy success of a 21.2 percent positive gain.

In addition, he stated that the Commissioner-General has registered 176, 524 new taxpayers compared to the 144,000 yearly objective set for 2024.
