Company awarded 5G contract was formed days before Akufo-Addo’s approval – Manasseh Azure Awuni

Ghanaian investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has made a startling allegation that a company awarded a lucrative 5G technology contract was formed just days before President Akufo-Addo’s approval.

According to Manasseh, the company was formed on August 16, 2023, and received presidential approval for the contract on August 22, 2023, just six days later.

“This raises serious questions about the transparency and accountability of the government’s contracting process,” Manasseh Azure Awuni wrote on Facebook on May 30, 2024.

He wondered how a company that “did not exist a week before the president’s approval be awarded such a lucrative contract?”

He called for transparency and accountability in the awarding of government contracts.

Manasseh Azure Awuni wants the government to explain why the company was awarded the contract without an auction and what the track record of the company is.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, is expected to address the media today.

Manasseh Azure Awuni has urged journalists in the country to demand answers on this controversial deal.
