The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) has announced a 15% fare increment, effective November 1, 2024.
The Association said the increment is due to the significant increases in fuel prices and spare parts.
In a statement dated Thursday, October 24, C-DAG noted the decision was made after “careful consideration of the current economic challenges faced by drivers.”
According to C-DAG, the prices of essential spare parts have skyrocketed, with the Sprinter Bus Engine (Scion) increasing from GHS 3,000 to GHS 24,000, and the Toyota Vitz (Taxi) rising from GHS 30,000 to GHS 80,000.
“In light of these significant price increases and the financial strain on drivers, we have concluded that a 15% fare increment will take effect starting 1st November 2024,” the statement read.
The Association initially considered a 20% fare increment proposed by regional executives but opted for a lower percentage to mitigate the burden on passengers.
“We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these challenging times and continue to work towards fair and sustainable solutions for all parties involved,” the statement added.
The Association noted that the fare increment is to alleviate the financial pressures on drivers and ensure the sustainability of the transport sector.
