Côte D’Ivoire Maintains GHC3,600 Farmgate Price Per Bag Of Cocoa

The world’s leading cocoa producer, Côte d’Ivoire, has announced it will maintain the guaranteed farmgate price for cocoa for the 2025/26 main season. The decision keeps the price at 2,800 CFA francs per kilogram — approximately GHC56 — translating to about GHC3,600 per 64kg bag.

In an official statement, the Coffee-Cocoa Council confirmed that the fixed purchase price will remain unchanged across the entire national territory until March 31, 2026. The move is aimed at providing income stability for cocoa farmers amid global market uncertainties.

According to the Council, the guaranteed minimum price applies nationwide and must be strictly observed by all licensed buyers and operators within the cocoa sector. The regulator emphasized that compliance is mandatory under existing industry regulations.

The Council further reminded stakeholders that the maximum legal deadline for full payment of delivered cocoa is one month from the date of effective delivery. Buyers who fail to settle payments within this timeframe risk facing penalties under national laws governing the sector.

Authorities warned that any breach of the minimum guaranteed price policy or delays in payment would attract sanctions. The regulator stressed that offenders would be subject to the full rigour of the law to safeguard producers’ rights and maintain sector discipline.

Producers have been encouraged to report cases of non-compliance, including underpayment or delayed payments, to the Council’s administrative offices. This measure is intended to strengthen transparency and accountability within the cocoa value chain.

The Coffee-Cocoa Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting farmers’ incomes, ensuring fair trade practices, and promoting the proper functioning of the cocoa industry. As the backbone of Côte d’Ivoire’s economy, the cocoa sector remains central to national revenue and global chocolate supply chains.
