Council of elders’ appeal is an acknowledgement of a potential problem – Emmanuel Bombande

Mr Emmanuel Bombande, Peace builder and Former Deputy Minister for foreign affairs and regional integration, has welcomed the directives issued by the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress issued on May 29, calling on political parties to adhere to party rules and committing to collective responsibility as national election draws near.

According to him, the ruling party has well structured and respected leaders who hold the moral authority to guide and that the council of elders awakening call is one of acknowledgement to a potential call on the NDC.

“This for me is a welcome news because the NDC has a tradition and the Council of elders is a very well respected structure within the party who hold the moral authority to guide “, he said.

Mr Bombande made this acknowledgement during an interview on metro TV’S Good Morning Ghana program as he further noted that the ruling party will make sure every problem within the party is attended to.

“I see the press statement as acknowledgement of a potential problem and the NDC through its Council of elders is not going to sweep anything under the carpets as it were”, he said.

The peace builder further explained that the council’s appeal was means to examine conscience of individuals by examining the collective interest of the party which will extend to the collective interest of the people of Ghana.

“It is more of examination of conscience of the individual amd to do that you look at the collective interest of the party and the republic of Ghana”, he stated.

The party also have to arrive at a destination where competition has to be healthy in our democracy space, it also has to be guided by the rules that allow transparency in the competition. 

He stated that societies and groups that are formed by interested individuals should be regulated on pre posting of flyers to create the temptation of early competitions.
