The Accra High Court has remanded former Director of the Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, into the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days.
The remand is intended to give the Attorney-General’s office sufficient time to finalize the preparation of statements from key state witnesses.
The decision was handed down on Friday, May 2, by presiding judge Justice Eugene Nyadu Nyante after a closed-door meeting involving prosecutors and defense attorneys.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, argued that Adu-Boahene posed a risk of interfering with ongoing investigations, hence the need for custodial remand.
Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, and two others—Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited—are facing a total of ten charges. These include stealing, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Prosecutors allege that between February and March 2020, Adu-Boahene dishonestly appropriated approximately GH¢49.1 million under the pretense of procuring a cyber defense system for the Government of Ghana. The funds were allegedly misappropriated through Advantage Solutions Limited, with the complicity of the co-accused.
His wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, has been charged with conspiracy to steal and leveraging public office for personal gain.
Meanwhile, co-accused Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited face charges of conspiracy and money laundering.
The court has allowed Donkor to remain on her existing bail terms, pending further developments.
