COVID-19 Update: “This Too Has Passed” – President Akufo-Addo Announces End Of All Covid Restrictions

President Akufo-Addo has officially declared the end of the COVID-19 global pandemic in Ghana.

This announcement follows the World Health Organization’s (WHO) declaration that COVID-19 no longer represents a global health emergency.

The president made this declaration on Sunday, May 28, 2023 during his 29th national televised address on the global pandemic.

Ghana, like the rest of the world nations, battled the pandemic after recording its first case in March 2020. The outbreak triggered a number of drastic health measures characterized by lockdowns, vaccinations, testing and others aimed at containing the spread of the virus.

After about three years, the country can give a sigh of relief as the pandemic has been declared over.

Addressing the nation on Sunday, President Akufo-Addo remarked that “this too has passed,” adding that “the emergency is over and we can safely lift any of those oppressive restrictions we have had to endure.

President Akufo-Addo further expressed his gratitude to all who supported the cause during the trying time.
