Customs officials destroy $600,000 worth of illegal goods in Volta Region

The Ho Sector Command of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NCC), has destroyed over 274 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, Afrodizia, and other illegal goods worth $600,000.

The items, intercepted from various border posts in the region, were destroyed by fire in the Ho Municipality, with officials from Customs working in collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service.

Assistant Commissioner Felicia Dadeboe-Azuma, Ho Sector Commander of Customs Division, warned those engaged in smuggling and illegal cultivation of cannabis that security agencies would arrest and deal with them according to the laws of the land.

She said the security a are poised to arrest and deal with anyone caught engaging in such illegal activities.

The destruction of the illegal goods is part of efforts to fight against the smuggling and illegal cultivation of cannabis in the region.
