DADDY LUMBA SAGA UPDATES : ‘Controversial’ Video Admitted as Evidence

A Kumasi High Court has admitted a controversial video in the ongoing Daddy Lumba court case, in which the late highlife musician appeared to discuss who performed in-law rites at his late mother’s funeral.

Counsel for Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, claiming to be the legal spouse of Daddy Lumba (born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh), objected to the video’s admission, arguing that the recording could be altered and prejudicial. The objection led to a heated exchange during Monday, November 17 proceedings.

The video, labelled Exhibit DL5, was tendered by lawyers for Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, the first defendant. It shows Daddy Lumba discussing the role of his first love, the late Theresah Abresseh, in performing rites at his mother, Amma Saah’s, funeral.

Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur overruled objections and admitted the video into evidence. Akosua Serwaa Fosuh maintains that she is the sole surviving wife and the only person entitled to perform the widowhood (Nseyie) rites. Her attorney presented photographic evidence supporting this claim, while the first defendant’s counsel argued that refusal to perform rites caused tensions with the musician.

The trial also involves disputes over the authenticity of the marriage certificate presented by Fosuh, due to prior use of a different name. Lawyers for Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni) further questioned the plaintiff’s attorney about her relationship with the late musician and the Fosuh family.

The Kumasi High Court is expected to deliver its ruling on November 25, 2025, with cross-examination continuing on November 18 after extensive proceedings.
