The family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, is demanding a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, citing conflicting accounts of how he passed away in July 2025.
In a press statement issued on October 13, 2025, and signed by the Family Secretary on behalf of Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh (widow) and Ms. Ernestina Fosuh (elder sister), the family described the inconsistencies in the reports they have received as “deeply distressing” and “raising serious questions about the true cause of death.”
According to the family, three contradictory accounts have emerged about how the 60-year-old German citizen of Ghanaian origin died while in Ghana.
The first account, from an eyewitness, claims that the late musician called a friend to his residence on the night of the incident, but the friend “was prevented from seeing him by a woman living with Mr. Fosuh.”
The friend allegedly left after waiting for nearly two hours, only to receive a call later that night informing him that Mr. Fosuh had died at home.
However, a police and coroner’s report submitted to the District Magistrate Court in Accra offers a different version. It states that the artist, a known diabetic, complained of pain in his legs and waist on July 24, 2025, and was taken to the Sunshine Diagnostic Centre for an MRI scan. Due to “agitation and fear,” he was placed under anaesthesia.
“After the scan, he developed severe pain and was transferred to the Bank Hospital, where he died on 26 July 2025,” the report noted.
A third account, attributed to Ms. Priscilla O., who was reportedly living with the late musician, has further deepened the family’s suspicions.
During the first family meeting, she allegedly claimed that Mr. Fosuh had received an injection at the Bank Hospital that caused him severe pain before his death. Yet, the next day, she reportedly told a family member that he had actually died at home, and that she “cleaned and dressed the body before calling a friend, identified as Serwaa A., to assist her in taking him to the hospital.”
The family stated that Ms. Priscilla O. has since declined to provide further information, and her statements “remain inconsistent and contradictory.”
“These contradictory versions have left the family deeply concerned and distressed, raising serious questions about the true cause of death and whether proper medical and investigative procedures were followed,” the statement read.
To that end, the family has formally contacted the German Embassy in Accra, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden, and the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) in Berlin.
They have also called on the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to question Ms. Priscilla O. and Mr. Philip Kwabena A., popularly known as Roman Fada, to assist in uncovering the truth about what really happened.
“We, the family of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, loved him dearly and are devastated by the unclear and conflicting reports surrounding his death,” the statement said.
“We have confidence that both the German and Ghanaian authorities will work together to uncover the truth, ensure justice, and bring transparency to this painful situation.”
The family confirmed that it has submitted all relevant documents, including medical reports, official correspondence, and confirmation from Transition Funeral Home regarding the handling of the musician’s remains.
