Daddy Lumba’s One-Week celebration moved to Black Star Square

The one-week observance for the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known as Daddy Lumba, will now take place at Black Star Square in Accra on Saturday, August 30, 2025, instead of the University of Ghana Stadium.

The change follows a directive from the La State Council, which asked organizers to relocate or postpone the event because of a traditional ban on noise-making and funeral activities in the La Traditional Area during the Homowo festival period. The ban, which began on August 11 and will end on September 5, prohibits loud events, including funerals and related gatherings.

In a statement, the Council expressed condolences to Daddy Lumba’s family but insisted that the cultural restrictions would be strictly enforced to preserve tradition.

“We sympathize with the family of the late Daddy Lumba and assure them of the support of La State at the appropriate time when the ban has been duly lifted,” the Council said.

Organizers apologized for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their understanding as preparations continue to honor the music icon.
