Seasoned journalist Nana Aba Anamoah has made a heartfelt plea to former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, urging him to return to Ghana as investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) into his alleged financial misconduct continue.
The appeal comes as the OSP intensifies its probe into Mr. Ofori-Atta over alleged corruption and corruption-related offences during his tenure as Minister of Finance.
The investigation covers high-profile matters such as the National Cathedral project, the controversial revenue-assurance agreement with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), and procurement issues within the Electricity Company of Ghana.
Mr. Ofori-Atta, who is currently in the United States, has been summoned multiple times but has not appeared before the investigators. This has led the OSP to declare him a fugitive and secure an INTERPOL Red Notice.
His legal team has cited procedural concerns and health-related issues as reasons for his absence, intensifying the legal debate surrounding the case.
Nana Aba referenced a statement Mr. Ofori-Atta made during his tenure as Finance Minister, when calls for his resignation were mounting, in which he compared stepping down to a father abandoning his children.
“Asking me to resign is like telling a father to resign from his children because he changed his mind.” Ofori-Atta said at the time.
Sharing a screenshot of the story on social media, Nana Aba Anamoah accompanied it with the caption, “Daddy, please come home. Your children have missed you.”
