Daniel Yaw Domelevo Named New Board Chair Of EOCO

Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has been appointed as the new Board Chairman of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in a move widely praised by anti-corruption advocates and governance experts.

Mr. Domelevo, known for his unwavering commitment to public accountability and fiscal discipline, will now lead EOCO’s governing board at a time when public demand for stronger action against economic and organised crime continues to grow.

During his tenure as Auditor-General, Domelevo gained national recognition for exposing financial irregularities and pushing for greater transparency in the use of public funds. His departure from office in 2021 was met with concern from civil society groups, many of whom viewed him as a key figure in the fight against corruption.

His appointment to EOCO’s board is already being hailed as a turning point for the institution. Several anti-corruption watchdogs and policy analysts have described the move as “timely” and “reassuring,” expressing hope that Domelevo’s leadership will help restore public confidence in EOCO’s work.

In brief remarks following his appointment, Mr. Domelevo underscored the urgency of tackling corruption, noting the significant financial losses it causes to the state.

“The amount of money lost to corruption in Ghana is alarming,” he said. “We cannot allow this to continue unchecked. EOCO has a critical role to play in reversing this trend, and I look forward to contributing to that mission.”

He also emphasized the importance of institutional independence and professionalism in combating economic crimes and money laundering.

EOCO, mandated to investigate and prosecute cases involving financial and organised crime, is expected to benefit from Domelevo’s strong background in forensic auditing, governance, and public sector accountability.
