Deal with police corruption, impunity – IGP urged

President John Dramani Mahama has called for increased accountability and transparency in law enforcement, emphasizing the urgent need to eradicate corruption within the Ghana Police Service.

President Mahama emphasized the detrimental impacts of corruption on justice and public trust in remarks following the swearing-in of Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday.

“Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” he stated.

The President emphasized that unethical police practices undermine public trust and weaken the foundation of the justice system.

“Corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies,” he added.

He called on the new IGP to ensure that officers maintain integrity in their work by taking firm action against all types of misconduct, including bribery and power abuse.

“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” he said.
