A modification to the vote-counting procedure for the general elections scheduled for December 7 has been announced by the Electoral Commission (EC).
At all polling places across the country, presidential ballots will now be counted before parliamentary ballots, breaking with past custom.
During a recent high-level meeting at the Ghana Police Service Command Center, Citizen Ato Dadzie, the General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), asked a question that prompted Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Head of the EC’s Training Department, to make this announcement.
In cooperation with senior security officials, the meeting—which featured leaders from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), and other political parties—was organized to talk about steps to ensure a safe, open, and peaceful election.
According to Dr. Quaicoe, the new instruction aims to maintain order at polling places nationwide and expedite the vote-counting procedure.
