The Ministry of Health (MOH) has categorically denied allegations made by the Minority in Parliament regarding the politicization of the government’s recruitment drive for over 15,000 nurses and midwives.
In an exclusive interview with Original News, Isaac Offei Baah, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, clarified that the recruitment process is a routine annual occurrence, explaining that the government consistently opens portals for healthcare personnel recruitment, and this year’s initiative follows the same pattern.
Baah emphasized that the primary objective is to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country by providing employment opportunities for all unemployed health workers.
Furthermore, he noted that the government aims to enhance healthcare delivery across the nation and therefore the decision is not influenced by political considerations but rather by the urgent need to bolster the healthcare workforce.
“You see, the Ministry of Health is actively seeking financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the recruitment process,” Baah said.
According to him, as Ghana continues to grapple with healthcare challenges, the government remains committed to strengthening the sector and that the recruitment of nurses and midwives is a crucial step toward achieving this goal, and the MOH affirms its dedication to a non-political, merit-based approach.
