Delay Of NDC Primaries In Awutu Senya East Over Venue Disagreement

The location of the poll this morning has been a point of contention between regional and constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Awutu Senya East.

While the regional executives are pressing for the election to take place at the Ofaakor DA Basic School, constituency executives want that it be held at the Odukpongkpehe School Park.

There are signs that some party members and delegates have congregated at the Odukpongkpehe School Park while others are at the Ofaakor DA Basic School, which is causing the event to start later than planned.

Executives of the party’s constituency claim that they have the authority to choose the best location for the event under Article 16(12) of the constituency.

Tauriq Amadu, the consistency secretary for the NDC in the Awutu Senya East Constituency, had his car broken into early this morning, and some of his personal belongings—including credentials for security, the media, and observers—were taken away.

The NDC’s deputy communications officer, Kobby Wilson Emmanuel, spoke with Original TV on the situation.

“We can’t use Ofaakor DA Basic School because the timing is not good for us. The chiefs should have been informed earlier prior to the decision-making which we failed to do. The last time we launched our campaign there, we saw what happened –people were stabbed and others attacked. So we can’t guarantee the safety of people this time around. We believe, as constituency executives, that so far, so far as our peaceful election and safety are concerned, the Odukpongkpehe School Park is the best venue for us,” he said.
