A week after a devastating rainstorm hit Kalande Community in the East Gonja Municipality, residents are struggling to recover from the destruction.
The disaster claimed one life, destroyed over 200 houses, and left more than 500 individuals homeless.
The storm also destroyed food plants, wiped out food supplies, and damaged the community’s only school, disrupting education.
The electricity supply was also affected, exacerbating the challenges faced by the residents.
Former Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Ibrahima, has donated 30 packets of iron sheets and pledged to expedite the completion of a three-unit classroom block.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Richard Broni, has assured the victims of the assembly’s collaboration with NADMO to provide support.
However, some community members have expressed concern over the lack of sufficient support, emphasizing that the disaster has affected almost every household.
They are appealing to NADMO, the assembly, and the Member of Parliament for assistance.
The community’s recovery efforts require sustained and coordinated support.
The residents’ resilience and determination will be crucial in rebuilding their lives and community.
