The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has received the final report of the committee set up to review Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television platform, paving the way for reforms aimed at improving its governance, sustainability and long-term efficiency.
The report was presented on Thursday after an independent assessment of the country’s digital television platform, which was commissioned by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George.
The committee was established following extensive consultations with stakeholders to examine the operational, financial and governance structures of the platform and recommend practical solutions to strengthen its future.
The review was prompted by growing concerns over the long-term sustainability of the platform, the management of its infrastructure, governance arrangements and the affordability of services for broadcasters.
As part of its work, the committee engaged major players in Ghana’s broadcasting industry, including the National Communications Authority, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, the National Media Commission, K Net and other stakeholders.
Receiving the report, Mr George described the submission as an important milestone in efforts to secure the future of Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television platform.
He said the review demonstrated the value of open and transparent collaboration between government and industry players in addressing national challenges through practical and evidence based solutions.
The minister said the report marked the beginning of the next phase of government’s efforts to strengthen the governance and sustainability of the platform. He assured stakeholders that the ministry would carefully study the committee’s recommendations and continue consultations before taking implementation decisions.
Mr George commended the committee and all institutions that contributed to the review, saying their commitment had provided government with a solid foundation for informed policy decisions.
The ministry also expressed appreciation to the committee members and stakeholder institutions for their expertise and cooperation throughout the exercise.
It said it remained committed to building a resilient, transparent and sustainable communications infrastructure that serves the public interest and supports the continued growth of Ghana’s broadcasting sector as the country’s digital transformation progresses.
