Dismissed Police Officer arrested for impersonating Chief Inspector

A 54-year-old man who once served in the Ghana Police Service has been arrested for posing as a police officer after he was dismissed from the force.

Kofi Boakye Frimpong, who claimed to be a Chief Inspector still in active service, was picked up by police officers at the Zenu Star Fuel Station on September 17, 2025.

According to police sources, Frimpong arrived at the station dressed in a black long-sleeved tactical police uniform with a Chief Inspector’s rank badge. His behaviour and appearance, however, raised suspicion among officers on duty, who decided to question him.

During the brief interaction, Frimpong reportedly jumped onto a waiting motorbike and ordered the rider to speed off. The officers gave chase and managed to arrest him after a short pursuit.

Investigations later revealed that Frimpong was a dismissed Chief Inspector who had relocated to Ashaiman. Despite his dismissal, he continued to wear the police uniform and present himself as an officer.

He was charged with false pretence and appeared before the Ashaiman District Court, where he pleaded guilty and asked the court for leniency.

The court has deferred sentencing and ordered that he be remanded in custody until his next appearance on October 14, 2025.
