Ghana’s Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has urged members of the newly inaugurated Constitutional Review Committee to approach their task with diligence, emphasizing the weight of their responsibility in shaping the nation’s governance structure.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at Jubilee House, Dr. Ayine reminded the committee that they were selected based on their expertise and ability to contribute meaningfully to the review process.
“You have been carefully selected for this important work on behalf of our country,” he said.
“The easier part of the job is to follow the prescribed method for altering the Constitution.”
His remarks underscored the necessity for precision, thorough research, and broad consultations in carrying out the review process. Given the complexity of constitutional amendments, the Attorney General stressed that the committee must navigate legal and political challenges while keeping the national interest at the forefront.
Dr. Ayine also highlighted the importance of transparency and public engagement, calling on committee members to be open to diverse perspectives from citizens, legal experts, and governance institutions.
As the review process unfolds, expectations are high that the committee’s diligence will lead to reforms that address ambiguities in the current Constitution and enhance Ghana’s democratic governance.
