A private citizen, Eric Dumenu Akatsi, has withdrawn his petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) seeking an investigation into alleged corruption involving Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Sammy Gyamfi.
Akatsi’s petition, filed on May 12, 2025, referenced Article 218(e) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which empowers CHRAJ to investigate alleged or suspected corruption and abuse of power by public officials.
The petition stemmed from a viral video showing Gyamfi gifting dollars to self-styled televangelist Patricia Asiedu Oduro Asiamah, popularly known as Evangelist Mama Pat or Nana Agradaa, prompting public criticism and concerns about possible breaches of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act and the Code of Conduct for public appointees.
In the petition, Akatsi alleged that Sammy Gyamfi maintained two private bank accounts with Consolidated Bank Ghana, containing over GHS 100 million, which he claimed were not present prior to Sammy Gyamfi’s appointment as Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.
He argued that this, combined with the dollar-gifting incident, raised suspicions of corrupt practices.
However, following President John Dramani Mahama’s announcement that no further disciplinary action would be taken against Sammy Gyamfi after he publicly apologized, Eric Akatsi decided to withdraw his petition.
In a letter to CHRAJ dated May 14, 2025, Akatsi stated, “I am writing to formally withdraw the petition I submitted on 13th May, 2025, with reference number 122/12/BL.12 regarding the instances of corruption against Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.”
He requested CHRAJ to halt any further action related to the matter, appreciating the time and effort invested in reviewing the petition.
Eric Dumenu Akatsi also offered to provide any additional information or documentation if required.
