The committee that investigated the August 6 helicopter crash has concluded that the fatal incident was caused by a sudden downdraft that led to a rapid loss of altitude and lift.
According to the committee’s findings, the aircraft “lost altitude and lift due to downdraft,” a sudden downward current of air that can severely affect flight stability, especially over rugged terrain.
“The investigation determined that the accident was caused by the sudden loss of altitude and lift due to downdraft,” the report stated.
“This loss of altitude without change in power or pitch attitude is consistent with downdraft associated with changing environmental conditions over high terrain.”
The report emphasized that the crew maintained proper control inputs and power throughout the flight, suggesting that the environmental factors, rather than human error or mechanical failure, were primarily responsible for the crash.
The August 6 accident claimed multiple lives, including two cabinet ministers and prompted the establishment of a special committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the crash.
