Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor have engaged key power sector stakeholders in high-level talks aimed at securing a stable and affordable electricity supply across the country.
Held at the Ministry of Finance, the high-level dialogue brought together decision-makers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the Energy Commission, and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), among others.
Dr. Forson acknowledged the strain unreliable power places on Ghana’s economy and households, stressing that stable electricity is not just a convenience but a cornerstone of national development.
“We cannot grow our economy or support businesses if our power sector continues to face the same old problems. The time for reform is now,” he said.
Energy Minister, John Jinapor echoed that urgency, assuring Ghanaians that the government is committed to transparent and sustainable reforms under the Energy Sector Recovery Programme (ESRP).
The meeting explored critical areas including improving operational efficiency, enforcing fair yet sustainable tariffs, strengthening revenue collection, and refining policies around fuel procurement and power purchase deals.
