Ghanaian international clergyman, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has issued an unreserved apology and retraction of comments he made on GTV’s Breakfast show on October 24, 2024, regarding the health status of University of Ghana students.
Lawrence Tetteh stated in a statement that he “deeply regret the statement made concerning the health status of the students of the University of Ghana and wish to apologize and unconditionally retract the statements.”
The President of Worldwide Miracle Outreach and Chaplain of the Ghana Christian Council of UK and Republic of Ireland explained that his comments were not intended to “undermine the university, cause fear, stigma, or misinform the public.”
As someone who interacts with individuals sharing sensitive information, Dr. Tetteh emphasized his commitment to confidentiality.
“I do not share any of this information privately or publicly because I hold in high esteem the confidence these people have in me to share such information.”
However, he acknowledged that linking the issues to University of Ghana students caused unnecessary worry.
“It is rather unfortunate that in referring to the youth with such problems, I linked or associated it with students of the University of Ghana, thereby giving the university community cause for worry.”
Dr. Tetteh’s apology comes after widespread concern and criticism following his initial comments.
“I wish to formally address the issues that have risen from comments I made…and assure the public that my intention was not to cause harm,” he added.
