Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has announced a series of initiatives aimed at enabling residents of the constituency to enjoy the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off today.
In a social media post on Thursday, June 11, the lawmaker revealed that he had paid subscription fees for television viewing centres across the constituency to ensure football fans do not miss any of the tournament’s action.
“The World Cup starts today and here is good news for Ayawaso West,” Mr Dumelo wrote.
According to him, he has “paid the dstv for tv viewing centers across Ayawaso west” as part of efforts to make the tournament accessible to residents.
The NDC legislator also announced the installation of several free giant screens at strategic locations within the constituency for the live broadcast of matches.
He said a “Free giant screen at Abelemkpe Astro Turf park” would be available for all Ghana matches, while another “Free giant screen at Okponlgo” would show all World Cup matches throughout the tournament.
Additional giant screens have been set up at Mempasem, Airport Residential Area, West Legon and Dzorwulu for residents to watch Ghana’s matches free of charge.
Beyond the viewing arrangements, John Dumelo disclosed that he had partnered with local food vendors to provide free meals during Ghana’s games.
“I have also engaged 13 Kenkey sellers across the constituency to provide free meals (Kenkey and Ghana fish) for those coming to watch the Ghana matches,” he stated..
Meanwhile, the Ignite Media Group, operators of Metro TV and Original TV, have officially joined Ghana’s national broadcast consortium for the tournament, securing the rights to air selected matches live throughout the month-long football festival.
For football lovers across the country, the arrangement means the drama, passion and unforgettable moments of the FIFA World Cup will be delivered directly into homes, workplaces and gathering spots nationwide.
