Duncan Williams, Eastwood Anaba call for suspension of National Cathedral construction wise advice – Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has welcomed the call for the suspension of the National Cathedral construction by two respected men of God Archbishop Duncan Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba.

He said the government should heed to the advice of the eminent clergymen.

“I’m also glad that during the week the respected Archbishop Duncan Williams and my own pastor, Rev. Eastwood Anaba, a great Odadee in whom we are all pleased, issued a joint memo to the board asking for the suspension of work. That is a major development,” he said on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV.

“Remember that Bishop Dag in his resignation letter even said they were spending more money trying to raise funds than what really is coming in,” he added to justify why the construction should be halted.

The North Tongu MP wondered why President Akufo-Addo keeps investing in the project despite the many diversions.

Two members of the Board of Trustees of the controversial National Cathedral project called for its immediate suspension and a financial audit was undertaken on Trustees on Monday, January 23,

Archbishop Duncan Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba say their call is based on the controversies surrounding the project.

According to them, the suspension will pave the way for transparency and accountability to be provided to the Ghanaian people.

They also called for an independent audit into the expenditures of the project.

The two respected preachers said the auditor(s) must be one that is nationally recognised.

“That in the spirit and cause of transparency and accountability to the Ghanaian people, the current Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral shall appoint an independent, nationally recognised accounting firm to audit all public funds contributed to and spent by the National Cathedral.

“Auditors will also audit the overall cost of the project. This appointment of an auditor shall take place before the deferment of activities of the Board of Trustees,” excerpts of the memo said.
