DVLA opens new office in Dormaa Ahenkro

Residents of Dormaa Ahenkro and nearby communities will no longer have to travel long distances to access licensing services following the official opening of a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office in the town.

The facility, commissioned at a ceremony in Dormaa Ahenkro, will serve the town and surrounding communities by providing vehicle registration and driver licensing services closer to home.

Speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Dormaa Ahenkro and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, Dormaa Gyaasehene, Barima Buabasa Oppong Yaw Ababio, expressed gratitude to government for fulfilling what he described as a long-standing request of the people. He noted that many residents had to travel to Sunyani or even Accra for DVLA services, a challenge that the new office has now resolved.

Bono Regional Minister, Lawyer Joseph Addae Akwaboah, described the project as part of efforts by government to expand access to essential services across the country. He added that the office will make it easier for drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road safety regulations while reducing the risks associated with long travel for documentation.

DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Julius Neequay Kotey, disclosed that the new office would create job opportunities for the youth of Dormaa, as most staff recruitment will be drawn from the local community. He also announced plans to roll out new secure, digital number plates and establish a compliance office in Dormaa to strengthen road safety enforcement.

Mr Kotey urged traditional leaders not to shield offenders who flout licensing and safety rules, stressing that the DVLA’s goal is to promote safer roads for all.
