DVLA suspends compliance fines

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced a suspension of its road compliance fines effective today, October 15, 2025.

The decision affects all activities of the Authority’s Compliance Team, which has been enforcing fines on drivers and vehicles to ensure adherence to licensing and registration laws.

In a statement, the DVLA said the move follows consultations and public feedback on the enforcement exercise. The Authority explained that the suspension will allow for more engagement and education of road users before the Compliance Team returns to duty.

“The compliance exercise was meant to promote regulatory compliance and safety on our roads,” the statement said. “However, after listening to the public, we have decided to temporarily halt the fines to deepen engagement and help people better understand their responsibilities.”

The DVLA stressed that while fines are suspended, all legal requirements for vehicles and drivers to be on the road remain in effect. It clarified that the decision only affects the collection of compliance-related fees and charges, not the laws governing licensing and roadworthiness.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring road safety and maintaining order on Ghana’s roads, noting that education and cooperation with the public are essential to achieving these goals.
