E/R: 11 arrested for allegedly killing 28 cattle at Kwahu Pepease

Eleven people have been arrested by the Kwahu Abetifi Police in the Eastern Region for allegedly killing 28 cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen at Kwahu Pepease and selling the meat to food vendors and chop bar operators.

The herdsmen, who are primarily engaged in cattle rearing for their livelihood, claim the incident has severely disrupted their business and caused significant financial losses.

Speaking to Angel FM, a representative of the herders, Umaro Baabuga, said the suspects did not only kill the cattle but allegedly sold the meat to local food vendors and chop bar operators within the district.

“We live peacefully with the farmers in the community. If they claim our cattle have destroyed any farms, they should provide proof,” Baabuga stated.

He further accused the suspects of being involved in the theft of their cattle over time, which has been affecting their ability to sustain their families and businesses.

Baabuga called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to uncover any hidden motives.

He also urged the Nkwatia District Court to apply the law strictly in order to deter others from engaging in similar acts of violence and theft.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has assured the public of a full investigation as the suspects remain in custody to assist with ongoing inquiries.
