The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has commissioned a maternity block at Ahomahomaso, a farming community in the Fanteakwa North District, to improve access to quality healthcare for expectant mothers and newborns.
The facility, constructed with support from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and the Government of Ghana at a cost of GH¢43,135.00, is expected to significantly reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in the community and surrounding areas.
Minister Awatey emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting the lives of mothers and newborns, stating, “No woman should lose her life while giving life. No child should be denied a safe start because of inadequate infrastructure.”

According to her, the maternity block is a testament to the power of decentralization, empowering district assemblies to identify and respond to the critical needs of their people.
She commended the Assembly for prioritizing the project and urged the community to take ownership of the facility, protect it, and maintain it for the benefit of all.
The Chief of Ahomahomaso, Bafour Asirifi Darko, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for completing a project initiated by the previous government, describing it as a significant boost to the community’s healthcare needs. He assured the Minister that residents would take ownership of the facility, ensuring its upkeep and longevity.
The Chief also urged staff of the facility to serve with humility and professionalism, emphasizing the importance of quality care for the community’s expectant mothers and newborns.
