A mining pit collapse has occurred at Akyem Wenchi in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, resulting in the deaths of four young men, with approximately 20 others believed to be trapped underground, Metro TV understands.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown. However, a multi-agency rescue operation is underway, with personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ambulance Service working tirelessly alongside local residents to rescue those trapped.
Rescue efforts are being hindered by the unstable nature of the collapsed site.
Despite the challenges, emergency responders remain committed to saving lives.
