The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested two men in connection with a violent motorbike robbery at Sibakon Down near Comet Estate, after tracking one suspect to his hideout and following leads that uncovered the sale of a stolen phone.
The attack happened on January 18, 2026. According to police, 31-year-old Kwabla Egblorgbe Gadoglo Mohammed, also known as Moha, and an accomplice who is now deceased, hired an okada rider, Muntari Zakari, from Kwabenya under the pretext of a trip to Sibakon Hospital.
Investigators say the journey turned violent when the two men allegedly attacked the rider with a locally manufactured pistol and a stone. They reportedly robbed him of his iPhone 13 Pro and demanded the key to his unregistered Royal motorbike.
In the chaos that followed, the rider raised an alarm. Residents rushed to the scene and lynched one of the suspects. The second suspect fled with the stolen phone.
Personnel from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate later tracked Mohammed to Afienya, where he was arrested on February 13, 2026. A subsequent search at his residence at Abokobi uncovered several items, including a cutter, two pairs of scissors, two hammers, a hacksaw, a cutlass, a jack knife, a saw and three mobile phones.
Further investigations led officers to Anyako in the Volta Region, where 37 year old Kwame Accolor, also known as Small Kidi, was arrested. Police say he had purchased the stolen iPhone 13 Pro for 800 Ghana Cedis.
Authorities are still working to retrieve the locally manufactured pistol allegedly used in the robbery.
Both accused persons have been put before court. Mohammed pleaded guilty to robbery, and the court has deferred sentencing to Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The Eastern Regional Police Command says it remains committed to intelligence led operations aimed at protecting residents and curbing violent crime in the region.
