Residents living along the Koforidua and Asesewa stretch in the Eastern Region are fed up with the delayed road construction, which has left the road in shambles.
The situation is made worse by excessive dust, posing serious health risks and causing accidents that have tragically claimed lives.
The prolonged delay has sparked protests from the community, who are demanding action to address the deplorable conditions. The unbearable dust levels are hazardous to residents’ health, potentially leading to respiratory issues and other health problems. Furthermore, the poor road conditions have resulted in numerous accidents, claiming several lives and likely affecting local businesses and the overall economy.
The Koforidua-Asesewa stretch which was awarded a contract almost four years ago, has still not been completed, putting commuters through ordeals.
In the absence of rain, the road becomes so dusty that, residents alongside the road have to endure a lot of health difficulties as they inhale this dust.
According to the residents, the dusty road has been the cause of many accidents on the road due to the thick suspension of the dust as drivers face challenges with visibility, hence claiming several lives of innocent residents.
The situation becomes worse when it rains as several potholes are developed impeding smooth vehicular movement.
The residents, however, called on the contractor to expedite work on the road within two weeks to help ease the sufferings of the people.
The leaders of the protest later on presented a petition to the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, which was received on his behalf by the coordinating director, Yaw Adu Asamoah and assured them of their concerns receiving the needed attention it deserves.
