Residents of Akyem Otumi-Asikam in the Kwaebibrem Municipality say they are suffering severely due to the deplorable state of their road network, which has left the community engulfed in dust and caused the collapse of several businesses.
According to the residents, numerous efforts have been made over the years to get the road fixed.
They recalled that the Member of Parliament for the Kade Constituency, Alexander Kwajo Agyare, promised to rehabilitate the road during the period when the NPP was in power, but the promise was never fulfilled.
The Chief of Akyem Otumi-Asikam, Bafour Larbi I, together with the Assembly Member for the Anweamu Electoral Area, Aboagye Emmanuel, has passionately appealed to the government to urgently fix the road, stressing that lives are being lost as a result of the situation.
“We are tired of promises. Fix the road now. We also deserve a bitumen road,” the chief emphasized.
Meanwhile, community members and business owners who have borne the brunt of the poor road conditions say the excessive dust from the road is affecting their health and destroying their livelihoods.
They lamented that road accidents have become frequent, businesses are collapsing, and residents are exposed to serious health risks due to the dust.
The residents are therefore calling on the government to heed their cries and take immediate steps to fix the road.
