The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced the halt of the re-collation of presidential and parliamentary election results, citing disruptions by political party supporters.
The commission said in a statement on Friday night the re-collation process, which was ongoing at the Tesano Police Depot, has been put on hold until further notice.
The Commission explained that the disruptions, which occurred on Election Day and the days following, prevented the collation and declaration of results in some constituencies.
“The inability to collate and declare results on Election Day… was due to disruptions of our collation processes by Political Party supporters,” the statement signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman, Operations said.
Despite the challenges, the Commission had managed to collate and declare results for the Fanteakwa North, Akwatia, and Suhum Constituencies, with the agents of all political parties observing the process.
The Electoral Commission has urged all stakeholders to collaborate with them as they carry out their mandate.
“We urge all Stakeholders to collaborate with the Commission as we carry out our mandate,” the commission noted.
