The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a strong public safety warning urging citizens to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season, highlighting the deadly risks associated with rainstorms and electricity.
In a notice titled “Rainstorm and Electricity – A Dangerous Combination,” ECG cautioned that fallen power lines, flooded environments, and damaged electrical installations can pose life-threatening dangers.
The company emphasized that all fallen electrical lines must be treated as live and dangerous, regardless of appearance, and urged the public to stay far away from any such hazards.
ECG also advised households to unplug electrical appliances during thunderstorms to prevent damage and reduce the risk of electric shock.
Additionally, the utility provider warned against walking through flooded areas near electrical installations, stressing that submerged equipment could be electrified and fatal.
The company encouraged the public to immediately report any electrical hazards using its emergency hotline: 0302 611 611.
This advisory comes amid ongoing heavy rains across parts of Ghana, which have already led to flooding, power outages, and damage to distribution infrastructure in several communities.
