NPP Presidential Candidate hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has taken a subtle swipe at the vice-president, also a contender in the flagbearership race, over his management of the economy, especially the depreciation of the local currency.
The current Member of Parliament for Assin Central who is on a campaign tour in the Kintampo East expressed his dissatisfaction with the way and manner that the Dr. Bawumia-led Economic Management Team (EMT) has managed the cedi.
He explained that the value of his $40 million in Cedi equivalent had decreased to $16 million over a period of five months, spanning from March to August 2022.
According to the firebrand politician, it is very uncommon to witness a self-acclaimed good economic manager seeking budgetary support from the International Monetary Fund and still claiming to be a “strategist.”
“You call yourself a strategist but when we were taking over power the Dollar was 4 Cedis, today One Dollar is Twelve Cedis and yet you call yourself a strategist. In March 2022 I had 40 million Dollars in Cedi equivalent, in August 2022 the value of the 40 million dollars has dropped to 16 million…..” Kennedy Agyapong said among other things.
Mr. Agyapong stressed the significance of conducting a clean campaign during his address. He pledged to address any accusations leveled against him and emphasized the importance of governing the country with common sense.
The Assin Central lawmaker, Agyapong cautioned his fellow flagbearer aspirants to maintain a fair and transparent campaign. He assured that he would address every claim made against him and urged others to be mindful of their statements.
