The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated the Governing Councils of four public Colleges of Education, stressing the government’s commitment to strong leadership, accountability, and improved teacher training across the country.
The colleges are Al Faruq College of Education, Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Enchi College of Education, and Gbewaa College of Education.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Iddrisu said Governing Councils play a critical role in setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability, and supporting effective management in Colleges of Education.
He noted that strong governance is key to improving the quality of teacher education and achieving national education goals.
He urged members of the newly inaugurated councils to serve with integrity, professionalism, and a strong sense of public duty. The Minister called on them to work closely with college management to promote academic excellence, improve staff welfare, support infrastructure development, and ensure the prudent use of public resources.
Mr Iddrisu also highlighted the importance of Colleges of Education in producing competent, innovative, and values driven teachers, especially to support ongoing education reforms at the basic level.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary policy support to enable the colleges to carry out their mandate effectively.
