Efutu NDC accuses EC of foul play over transfer of Municipal Director

The Efutu Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of a deliberate attempt to manipulate the constituency’s voters register in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the NDC, the transfer of the Efutu Municipal Director of the EC, Ama Akotuah, with immediate effect, raises suspicions of foul play.

The party alleges that the transfer is a result of an altercation between the director and some NPP members last week.

Addressing the press, the Efutu NDC Parliamentary Candidate, James Kofi Annan, claimed that the director’s transfer is instigated by her resolve to correct the anomaly of 20,000 non-Efutu residents on the voters’ roll. He further alleged that the director’s efforts to prevent similar anomalies in the upcoming polls in December led to her transfer.

Annan called on the EC to revert the decision and also appealed to the national leadership of the NDC to intervene in the matter.

He complained about intimidation of NDC members by the NPP and the continuous busing of non-residents from neighboring constituencies, including Tema East, to register in the Efutu Constituency.

He expressed fear that if the action is not curtailed, it will influence and manipulate the results of the December 7 polls in favor of the NPP.

The NDC has vowed to resist any attempt to manipulate the electoral process and ensure that the polls are free and fair.
