Eight individuals have been arrested and prosecuted for breaching sanitation regulations within the Central Business District (CBD) of Kasoa, in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.
The arrests were carried out by a temporary task force established by the Municipal Assembly to address the persistent challenge of indiscriminate waste disposal in the area. The offenders were apprehended in the act of dumping refuse in unauthorized locations and have since been arraigned before the court.
Some of the cases have already been concluded, with the culprits fined for violating municipal sanitation bylaws.
Speaking to Class FM, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini emphasized the Assembly’s determination to combat poor sanitation practices. He revealed plans to establish a permanent sanitation task force made up of officers from various state security agencies.
“The new unit will ensure consistent enforcement of sanitation regulations and maintain cleanliness across all parts of the municipality,” Mr. Serwonoo-Banini stated.
The ongoing initiative is part of a broader municipal campaign to improve public health and hygiene in one of the region’s busiest commercial centres.
Kasoa District Police Commander, ASP Emmanuel Amponsah, who is also part of the enforcement team, reiterated the police’s full support. He warned that the era of leniency toward sanitation offenders is over.
“Let this serve as a warning to all. Anyone caught flouting sanitation rules will face the full rigour of the law,” ASP Amponsah cautioned.
Residents and traders have welcomed the effort, citing the need for more robust action to clean up the municipality and discourage lawlessness.
Municipal authorities are urging the public to comply with sanitation regulations and use designated waste disposal facilities to avoid penalties and contribute to a cleaner, healthier Kasoa.
