Ejura police station set ablaze after detainee dies in cell

A police station in Ejura was set on fire by angry residents after a detainee died in police custody.

The detainee, a Zongo resident, was arrested for buying a stolen phone, but the person who stole the phone remains at large.

According to Metro TV sources, the police detained the buyer of the stolen phone, but failed to find the actual thief.

Tragically, the detainee was found dead in his cell the following morning.

Our sources say the police did not consult the detainee’s family before sending his body to the Mampong morgue.

When the family visited the police station to inquire about the case, they were shocked to discover that the detainee had died and his body had been sent to the morgue.

The incident sparked outrage among the Zongo community, who took to the streets and set the police station, including the quarters, ablaze.

The protesters also freed all the prisoners being held at the station.

“Why send Muslim guy’s body to Morgue without consulting the family?” a source asked, highlighting the cultural sensitivity of the issue.

Soldiers have been deployed to the area to calm the situation, which remains tense.
