The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed their dislikeness for the three-member inquiry committee formed by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to probe into the Ejura violence
Dzifa Tegah, a member of the NDC national communication team on Good Morning Ghana Monday described the President’s decision as empty rhetoric arguing the outcome would be no different from events in the past under the Akuof-Addo regime.
Representing the opposition NDC on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, July 5, 2021, Ms. Dzifa Tegah said it is basic for an ordinary fellow to reject the President’s offer stating “but if I were a normal Ghanaian, I wouldn’t need to ask why the minority leader representing the minority portion in parliament and the NDC as a whole rejected that idea and thinks it isn’t good.’
Ms. Dzifa Tegah went on to explain that the recent violent incidences sparked a public outcry to provide rapid results on the matter.
“Let be sincere. The way you and I are agitated about this Ejura killing, this KNUST violence, the football violence, and the Wa violence, is not because of one singular thing that happened,” she added.
She indicated that the impatience of the Minority caucus in Parliament was borne out of a trend of similar issues that never produced results. “It is because it has been a trend for some time now. It started way back but the very first one that a lot of Ghanaians remember was from the Ayawaso-West incident and down to the elections and down. We are looking at the trend of issues.”
To this end, Ms. Tega noted that the perpetrators of recent happenings in Ejura, KNUST, and Wa were bolstered by the fact that, previous crime operatives were not penalized.
“What did the normal Ghanaian see? Did we see perpetrators being brought to book? Did we see people being jailed? Did we see people resigning?” she quizzed.
She further described the government’s response to violence incidences as a deliberate oversight, “Because some of these things were clear negligence, some were deliberate acts to throw violence on civilians. I mean per a lot of investigations you realize that these things are pure crime, and should be dealt with in the harshest way possible by the law of not just to punish the people but to give hope to Ghanaians and also to warn them that there are consequences for people who tow this line. But we haven’t seen that.”
