El-Wak Tragedy: Mahama Visits Victims At 37 Military Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has visited the 37 Military Hospital in Accra following the tragic stampede that occurred during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, which left six people dead and several others injured.

The President was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the Acting Minister of Defence, Cassiel Ato Forson, and other senior government and military officials. The visit was aimed at obtaining firsthand information about the condition of the injured and the ongoing medical response.

During the visit, President Mahama interacted with some of the injured victims receiving treatment and expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

He described the incident as “heartbreaking and deeply unfortunate,” assuring the affected families that the government will ensure a thorough investigation into the causes of the stampede.

“This tragedy must not happen again. We must review and strengthen our recruitment procedures to ensure the safety of all applicants,”the President reportedly said during his hospital tour.
