Election 2024: EC recalls papers for Eastern, Western Regions over defaced paper

The Electoral Commission (EC) has recalled ballot papers intended for the Eastern and Western Regions after a defaced ballot paper was found outside the Checkpoint Printing House, the facility responsible for producing the papers.

According to Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, the decision to recall the papers was prompted by a report from National Security.

At an emergency IPAC meeting on Sunday in Accra, Madam Jean Mensa said the commission has commenced the reprinting process and assured the public that strict measures are being implemented to prevent similar incidents.

The special voting exercise, which was originally scheduled for Monday, December 2, has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 5, for the two regions. However, the exercise will proceed nationwide as scheduled.

The EC has urged all voters and candidates to remain calm and cooperate as steps are taken to resolve the issue.

The commission has reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and ensuring a credible electoral process.
